It is one of the biggest nights in showbiz and the Oscars did not disappoint with an evening of twists and triumphs this year, with La La Land ‘winning’ and then losing the Best Picture award to the underdog Moonlight. For the leading awards show in the film industry, Sky launched a special dedicated channel, Sky Cinema Oscars, and on the night itself Alex Zane presented Oscars 2017: Red Carpet Live, joined by guests including Boyd Hilton, Anna Smith and Sanjeev Bhaskar.
With lighting by Lighting Designer Malcolm Reed, supported by Richard Martin Lighting, Red Carpet Live covered everything from the red carpet arrivals to award predictions, keeping the UK night owls entertained before the live coverage of the awards ceremony itself started at 1.30am.
For the special pre-show, Malcolm chose one of our newest products for the rig – the SL LEDSPOT 300, alongside old favourites Pixel Par 90s. Despite being a small unit, the SL LEDSPOT 300 packs quite a punch providing an ideal solution for designers with challenging space requirements desiring total beam control. The set was simple and stylish, evoking the late night shows that the USA have, with the SL LEDSPOT 300s complementing this atmosphere.
With over 3000 statuettes having been given out during its 89 years, the Oscars are a great celebration of the best the film industry has to offer and something we’re really proud to be a small part of this side of the pond.
